Piers Calvert Memorial Road Run

Held on Saturday 24th April 2010 it started from St Mary's Barn at Marton in the Forest just north of of York, by kind permission of Mr R Ward.

A fine morning greeted the approx 30 or so entrants who were led off by Ray Chappelow, our Tractor Steward.

Proceeding northwards the route went through some pretty countryside to get to Skewsby and along Torrington Bank to Ganthorpe where we diverted to the Castle Howard Estate.

Entering the Stray from the north end we travelled past the Obelisk and then on towards to the Gatehouse and its tower before coming to the Arch with its busy roundabout. All of this part had the glorious backdrop of Castle Howard Estate.

A bit further and we came to the lunch stop at the Blacksmiths Arms provided by Mr & Mrs Ritchie. At this point Mrs Calvert presented the Piers Calvert Memorial Trophy to Roger Haywood, his very smart Super Dexta was declared Best on the Day.

A few tractors needed some minor running repairs and all then set off towards West Lilling diverting through Ambo and then staright to Stillington, from which it was a short step back to the finish/start point.

The run of about 30 miles suited the drivers who were all well pleased with the run and vowed to be back next year.
